July 19, 2005 THE PROPOSED BATEMAN SCHOOL OF CHICAGO WEBPAGEHere is my idea of what a fitting web page for 'The Bateman School' of Chicago will look like. The is a diamond in the rough, a work in its very beginning. All suggestions, ideas, contributions, pictures, rememberances, ideas, thoughts, crazy stories, almost anything that relates to Bateman are welcomed. All students, administrators, faculty, staff and friends of Bateman are encouraged to join in this effort in some manner. This is just the start, but it will take the efforts of more than yours truly to make this a fitting tribute. Who am I? My name is Bob Kurtz and I taught boys PE from 1968-1970, far too brief a period of time. I remember Bateman and all connected with it fondly and think something should be on the internet for others to appreciate. If it happens, the site will be dedicated to the founder, Ellen Bateman, and her sister, Mrs. Alice Bateman Craig, who owned the school when I worked there and whom I found to be one of the nicest, most dedicated and interesting people I met in my 11 year teaching career. All Mrs. Craig ever wanted was the best for everyone and her school. She was a dreamer and made many of her dreams come true. The world today needs many more like her today. The forum, of which this is the first piece, will be moderated, and I want this to be as positive as possible, but within reason, will accept critical opinions and contributions. Not everyone had a happy experience at Bateman, but I would like to think most did. This work will be what you make of it. I can't do it alone. I only have information from the two years I was there, so others will have to contribute. I also have limited time and resources, but I do have the ability to host the site without any expense. Remember this is a bare bones beginning, just a test marketing to see if others are interested, more will be added as others contribute. The URL for the temporary site is http://crthree.net/bateman/. My email address is robertblair_no_spam_to_this_address_ever@cr3.com. To those who want to discuss this project in detail, I will give you my phone number on request. Let me hear from you.
